Pyrenees Mountain Trail
Discover the Pic du Midi from its summer pastures to small lakes on paths steeped in history. An itinerary full of delightful surprises and enchanting landscapes. Riding through this landscape takes you along mountain trails where you'll discover lush green valleys, lakes and breathtaking panoramas.Throughout the trail you will be accompanied by two pack mules carrying provisions so that you can really get off the beaten path and travel to parts of the mountain not accessible by vehicle. The support vehicle will meet you every two days to restock supplies. Being accommpanied by pack mules also means you can can travel light on the horses and enjoy a faster pace.

itinerary
Day 1
Your adventure begins in Bagnères de Bigorre, where you’ll be greeted warmly by the team and the horses that will accompany you. The evening promises relaxation and conviviality in a charming inn filled with authenticity.
Day 2
After selecting your equine companion and preparing your gear, set off to explore the foothills of the Baronnies. Cross the Adour Valley and ascend the trails leading to the majestic Casque du Lhéris. End the day under the stars, either in a bivouac or a traditional mountain hut, for a full immersion in the natural beauty of the Pyrenees.
Day 3
Soak in the beauty of the Adour Valley as you ascend toward the plateau of Payolle, nicknamed “Little Canada” for its postcard-perfect landscapes. The day concludes in a cozy inn, where you can unwind and enjoy a restful evening.
Day 4
Embark on a journey through legendary passes and ridges, with stunning views of the Payolle Lake and the Adour Valley. This day offers exhilarating gallops and moments of quiet contemplation. Spend the night in the authentic mountain setting of Courtaou.
Day 5
Step back in time as you explore the mountain pastures and ancient villages of the Four Véziaux. Discover traditions such as the “leytés,” ingenious systems for butter refrigeration. Continue your climb on forest tracks and old mule trails before spending a magical night in a bivouac near the Arizes cabin.
Day 6
Cross the Arizes Pass for a day filled with challenges and natural beauty. Sparkling lakes, towering ridges, and grandiose landscapes will guide you to a welcoming hamlet, where you’ll enjoy a hearty meal in good company. Overnight at a comfortable hotel.
Day 7
Your final day of riding takes you back to Bagnères de Bigorre through the famous plains of Esquiou, with a last glimpse of the majestic Pic du Midi. Treat yourself to a relaxing session at the thermal baths to wrap up this incredible adventure.
Day 8
After enjoying a final breakfast together, wander through the charming market of Bagnères or take one last relaxing dip in the thermal baths before heading home.

know before you go
This ride is only for experienced riders. The trail combines lots of walking, trotting and cantering at least once a day, except on days 5 and 6, which are in the high mountains. You'll be riding between 5 to 7 hours per day so a good level of fitness is also essential. A sense of adventure goes without saying! The maximum weight for this trail is 90 kilos.

Your guide, Caroline has been crossing the Pyrenees on horseback for many years and holds a professional ATE (Tourism Riding Diploma). She holds a vast knowledge on the local flora, fauna and natural environment. Caroline is fluent in French and English and ready to share her passion for this region of France.
The group size is 4-8 riders.

There are around ten surefooted horses available, plus two pack mules who carry the luggage. Heights range from 14 to 16hh.

With one or two exceptions, the saddles are Stubben ‘Scout’ models. Very comfortable, quality trekking saddles.

Accommodation
Accommodation is in local inns and hotels for 4 nights with 3 nights spent camping in mountain huts for a full Pyrenees immersion! The trail is full board and you expect picnic lunches, usually consisting of a mixed vegetarian salad, bread, sausage, paté and served with cheese. There is always a few different options for dessert.
In the evenings, dinners are provided by the hotels and inn that you will stay at. On the camping nights a hot meal will be prepared by the support team.

- Lourdes- Tarbes Airport (LDE)
- Arrival time: Before 5PM to enjoy a first evening with your hosts and fellow riders.
- Departure time: Book flights to depart after midday on Day 8
- Transfers: €80 per car and paid on arrival.
The single supplement is not available on this ride, all participants must be happy to share.
