Your Next Beach Holiday

As winter stretches endlessly on, you may be dreaming of your next escape – ideally one that includes horse riding!

Alentejo is Portugalโ€™s best kept secret; the coast has some magnificent unspoilt beaches and cliff walks of unrivaled beauty, while the inland meadows are strewn with lagoons and explode with wildflowers in spring. Itโ€™s a bird watching, wild swimming, horse riding paradise.

The horses and riding
Over just one week, with 6 days in the saddle, you’ll enjoy diverse landscapes and spectacular views, riding on varied terrain from clifftop paths to long sandy beaches with plenty of opportunities for long relaxed canters and beach gallops.
You will be riding beautiful and calm Lusitano or Lusitano-Arab horses, many of them homebred by your hosts. Spending 4 to 6 hours in the saddle each day, this trail is ideal for intermediate riders onwards.

Accommodation

Stay in traditional-style, rural Alentejo hotels with sparkling swimming pools and outdoor terraces. Find quiet spots outdoors for yoga or swimming, take a stroll around the grounds or strike out for wonderful walks and spot rare birds. Return to a well stocked bar and farm-to-table food, including veg and fruit from the ownersโ€™ garden in season.

Meals are typically Alentejo cuisine, the region is known for its gastronomy of simple yet mouthwatering dishes. Fresh-baked bread, olives, wild mushrooms, asparagus, salted cod, wild boar, olive oil and some excellent cheeses form the basis of many recipes. Local wine is included with dinner (the Alentejo region produces half of the countryโ€™s wine).
