On this introduction to riding in the hills, our purpose is that you should feel at home with your horse and enjoy being in the saddle as you travel along the tracks and trails. Even those with little or no previous experience will soon be able to prepare their horse for the trail โ€“ catch, feed, groom, and tack up.

It is a fantastic, varied three days covering 45 miles, exploring the best of the Radnor Hills. This four day, three night trail ride starts and ends at Freerein HQ on the Welsh/English Border in the Wye Valley. This is an incredible journey covering 70 miles, exploring the heart of Mid-Wales along unmarked tracks and trails through wild, remote hills and valleys, staying overnight at country inns and family run B&B’s along the way. The route is steeped in mystery and historic tales, dating back to the 1st Century.

The Border to Coast trail takes you from the lush grenery ofย  the Welsh/English Border in the Wye Valley, and finishes on the open sands of the Welsh coast. Prepare for a real trail riding expedition, covering 100 miles, crossing Wales along unmarked tracks and trails through wild, remote hills and valleys filled with waterfalls, staying overnight at small inns and guest houses along the way. A true adventure.

These trails will take you across the open hills on unmarked paths, through green lanes, streams and historic hamlets and on the rocky paths of timeworn droverโ€™s roads. Admire the ever-changing landscape between the ears of your horse, listen to the call of the magnificent red kite and let yourself unwind in the peaceful nature.

An unforgettable trail

Each day you will groom, feed and tack up your friendly horse before heading out to the hills. You will be riding approx. 6 hours daily, enjoying long trots along the way and lovely canters on the hillsides. A well-deserved rest is waiting at your overnight stop in a comfortable, local country inn or b&b. Spend the evenings in the company of your trail companions with hearty meals and a drink or two.
